4 Reasons Your Business Shouldn’t Use Video

4 reasons to not use video

Change is hard, us business owners are set in our ways and find it difficult to adopt new ideas and ways to market. For many they are stuck in a time when marketing was different. When things that now seem archaic to present day marketers were common place. Well why resist change? Why try this video marketing or online video that everyone’s talking about? After all, isn’t YouTube just a bunch of cat videos and pranksters?

Well, don’t worry here’s 4 reasons your business shouldn’t use video.

1-Keywords and phone book ads work.

Online video isn’t needed, I have a webpage made and my nephew said he put keywords on it so that should be enough to get me on Google. I really don’t need to put a video on YouTube, the number 2 search engine that’s owned by Google, to help my pages search ranking. Even if a video is to keep people on my site longer I don’t care. I just want them to call me, that’s why I placed an ad in the local phone book.

2-What’s wrong with bus ads?

If an ad in the phone book isn’t working try putting your ad on a bus, its moving all over town to show people my ad. Maybe if that doesn’t work I will try a billboard, that should allow me to reach customers when they aren’t online or in the phone book. I really don’t need a video that people can play on any device or in any location. I don’t see how someone watching my video when they have free time and a chance to put it somewhere they can remember is better than a bus ad, where they may not have time or a way to write down my website or phone number.
(For the record bus ads and billboards are still awesome forms of marketing. They’re just different from video, and I’m trying to make a different point.)

3-Why should I connect with my customers?

Everyone talks about having to connect with customers on a new level. I only want to connect to customers enough so they buy my product. I don’t see the reason I need to connect, it’s not like connecting with a customer will make them feel like they know me or make them want my product more. I really don’t think having me, the person customers deal with, in a video will help when they deal with me in person. I especially don’t think that having video that connects the customer to my product and keeps them interested in it will help sales. Or that they’ll be willing to share that video with other people.

4-Word of mouth is good enough.

I don’t need to be on Myspace or The Facebook, it really can’t help my business that much. How could putting my video on one of those site for kids help me? It’s not like good old word of mouth advertising, where if you like something you share it with your friends. I don’t think that many people would end up seeing my video. And even if it someone shared, why would someone else watch it, it’s not like they trust the judgment of the person who shared it or anything.

Like the song says, the times they are a changin. All the reasons just stated to use quality video were valid at one point , but it hasn’t remained that way. Video is seeing such an explosion in marketing over the last few years, yet only some of the larger brands and companies are adopting it and doing it well. There is still a major market for businesses to use video, and a lot of your competition isn’t using it yet, and maybe even for some of the reasons here. Don’t get stuck in a rut, you more than likely threw out your leisure suit and old 8-track tapes. it’s time to throw out your old marketing ideas and get ahead of your competition with quality video.
